That was <em>very early<\/em> in the climate game. I had a paper published on my piece of the work the following year (an early look at possible impacts on fisheries), which led about a year later to a call from CBC in Toronto for an on-air interview. <em>( fisheries have long been a Big part of the Canadian economy)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The last question in the interview was about what happens next, and my immediate guess was that given the $value of fossil fuels in the global economy, the fossil fuel producers would continue to make progress difficult. <em>Well, that turned out to be the understatement of the century!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Fast forward to today, and the Tweetster&#8217;s cozy arrangements with BIG $Donors in the energy biz led to<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/02\/12\/climate\/trump-epa-greenhouse-gases-climate-change.html\">an article in today&#8217;s NYT\u00a0<\/a> announcing<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> his unilateral s<em>h*t-canning<\/em> of <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the global scientific consensus that climate change endangers all life on Earth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Roughly translated, such a policy would end, in the largest national economy in the world, all efforts to slow and reverse the carbon-caused destruction of environmental and ecosystems quality <em>that we know with certainty<\/em> has followed from massive increases in expansion of global population and industrial production, and which is killing our planet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img data-opt-id=1051868187  decoding=\"async\" class=\"d1fekHMv2WPYZzgPAV7b alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/external-content.duckduckgo.com\/iu\/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fc8.alamy.com%2Fcomp%2F2HJCP5E%2Fa-graph-showing-the-worlds-rapidly-increasing-population-from-1700-to-the-present-day-and-extending-into-2048-when-the-global-population-is-projected-to-reach-9-billion-the-worlds-population-first-reached-1-billion-in-1804-2HJCP5E.jpg&amp;f=1&amp;nofb=1&amp;ipt=2a2bac5b802cd95b2c66a0f6de9f9fb88d76f5cc7b2ada41c8a203ebea99b8ed\" alt=\"A graph showing the world's rapidly increasing population from 1700 to the present day, and ...\" width=\"481\" height=\"320\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The graph above shows that the problem is not just that global population of human beings has been increasing rapidly since the end of WWII. It&#8217;s that energy production has been increasing along with it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">So&#8230;maybe <em>increasing<\/em> fossil fuel production is just the autistic billionaires&#8217; logical notion of <em>a better world for fewer people.\u00a0<\/em>So hey, instead of turning toward green energy and a better world for <em>billions<\/em>, if\u00a0 enough people just, um, <em>&#8220;went away,&#8221;<\/em> the surviving trillionaire-igarchs would have their perfect world.
