Thought we would make a quick stop at the Annual Chili Cookoff at Otto Preserve beforehand, but by the time we had walked the dogs, visited, and tasted all 17 chili recipes, it was 2pm before we opened the door.\u00a0 DOH! Apologies to any early arrivals! All the chilis were very tasty; it was a stunningly beautiful day, and there was a great turnout, must have been half the island out there!<\/p>\n<p>This was our first all-Italian tasting, with the new arrivals that had been on order since early spring. The verdicchio and nero d&#8217;avola-syrah blend\u00a0were the stars, the montepulciano and the &#8220;rosecco&#8221; also drew appreciative &#8220;yums.&#8221; The Erio &#8220;super-Tuscan&#8221; was a bit disappointing from how I remembered it, so it might need some more bottle time before we pour it again.<\/p>\n<p><img data-opt-id=1964220557  fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mlpxrtka7dnn.i.optimole.com\/w:auto\/h:auto\/q:mauto\/ig:avif\/http:\/\/www.artisanwineclub.com\/images\/mark_livvy_0709.jpg\" alt=\"mark-livvy\" width=\"321\" height=\"302\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This weekend we can look forward to these gems:<\/p>\n<p><!--[if gte mso 10]>\n\n\n<style>\n\/* Style Definitions *\/\ntable.MsoNormalTable\n{mso-style-name:\"Table Normal\";\nmso-tstyle-rowband-size:0;\nmso-tstyle-colband-size:0;\nmso-style-noshow:yes;\nmso-style-parent:\"\";\nmso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt;\nmso-para-margin:0in;\nmso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt;\nmso-pagination:widow-orphan;\nfont-size:10.0pt;\nfont-family:\"Times New Roman\";\nmso-ansi-language:#0400;\nmso-fareast-language:#0400;\nmso-bidi-language:#0400;}\n<\/style>\n\n<![endif]--><span class=\"brand\"><strong>Argiolas<\/strong><\/span><strong> <span class=\"title\">Costamolino<\/span><span class=\"vintageage\"> Vermentino 2006 (Italy-Sardinia)&#8211;<\/span><\/strong><em>Supple aromas of citrus, pineapple, tropical fruits and honey are wonderfully supported by a zesty acidity. Delicate and pleasantly refreshing on the palate&#8230;(I <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">love<\/span> this wine!) $18 <\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Vi\u00f1as de Vila Tinto Fundaci\u00f3n (Argentina):<\/strong><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"> <\/span><\/strong><em><span>A blend of 50% Bonarda and 25% each Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon, it is cropped at 4 1\/2 tons per acre and aged in a combination of cuves with innerstaves and 2 &#8211; 5 year old barrels. It is rich for the price and surprisingly polished&#8230;$10<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"> <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Mt.<\/strong><strong> Baker<\/strong><strong> Malbec\u00a0(Washington):<\/strong><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"> <\/span><\/strong><em><span>A well balanced,\u00a0well-crafted, fruit-forward wine that is a wonderful accompaniment to hearty summer fare and a nice comparison with the next wine&#8230;$20<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"> <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Catena Malbec\u00a0\u00a0 (Argentina):<\/strong><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"> <\/span><\/strong><em><span>On the nose is the sweet scent of black cherry, currant and cocoa, medium to full bodied, with flavors of dark berries, cranberries, chocolate and caramel. The tannins are smooth and well submerged and help offset the bold acidity.
